5 Anti Ageing Foods

Healthy Eating DietThe general guidelines for longevity are to keep your kilojoule consumption in check, eat plenty of natural produce and wholegrains and cut down on salt and sugar.

In addition to these general guidelines, there are specific foods that will do wonders for you and, more importantly, your skin.

Avocado – A good source of the healthy monounsaturated fat, vitamin E and potassium. Not only is avocado good for you from the inside, but mashed avocado makes for an interesting facial mask too!

Berries – All black and blue berries such as blackberries, blueberries and blackcurrants contain phytochemicals known as flavonoids which are powerful antioxidants which help to protect the body against aging. TIP: Choose the frozen variety for easy all year access for smoothies and berry desserts.

Cruciferous vegetables – The family of Cruciferous vegetables includes cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, turnip, brussels sprouts, radish and watercress. Try to consume at least one portion (about a fistful)of these vegetables on a daily basis. If possible, eat them raw or very lightly cooked so that the important enzymes remain intact.

Water – Often the forgotten ‘nutrient’. Nothing compares to water. Water is essential for our body and for assisting with preventing dehydration and the detoxification process.

Spice of life – Garlic, ginger and turmeric are really dynamite foods in small packages. They not only add big flavour but they add big nutritional value too. Use these dynamite foods as much as possible in your food preparation.
